Winter Adventure

We awoke Christmas day to a white, snow covered scene outside the window! It was so beautiful, it looked like a Christmas card. I spent the day with my family by the fire, and Peyton enjoying all the noise making toys he received.

Early yesterday morning, mom got the call that she would not need to go into work at the nursing home due to the road conditions, and that the person on call would cover her shift. However, several hours later, she was told she did need to come in, and that the road were clearing up enough to drive. So mom, Ashlee, Peyton and I loaded up in dad's jeep, and headed off to Rossville, GA.

We used the opportunity to visit some of Ashlee's family in Apison, TN after we had dropped mom off at work. Once we got to the interstate, the roads were decent, but the huge hill leading from my parents neighborhood was quite a challenge.

Later that night, around 10:00pm, we made our way back to Rossville to pick mom up from work. On the way home, the snow had started falling again, and the roads were starting to refreeze. We were doing great on the interstate, running about 55 mph, and then it happened. We hit a patch of black ice on a bridge; you know, the one's that say "bridge may ice before road in winter." Mom in the back seat screeching, and Ashlee beside me screeching only added to the adrenaline rush I was receiving from the jeep fishtailing on the interstate. The only one not nervous was Peyton knocked out in the back seat.

Thankfully, I was able to recover quickly and continue on to the house, however I was more "aware" of the road until we got home. It was very evident that the Lord had His hand of protection on us last night, and that we were safe in the Lord. I'm thankful to say that I can rest knowing that if something had happened, my God, and my Savior is still in full control!
