Rom 8:26-28
“Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
It’s always amazing to me how the Lord works in ways that make us conformable to His image. As I grow and mature in the Lord, my outlook on life changes, my thoughts change, the way I react to situations change, and the way His word speaks to me often changes.
This morning was no different. Sitting in the doctor’s office with Ashlee, waiting on the results from her ultrasound, the Lord began bringing to mind His promises to us in His word. Though I think I already knew the results, the Lord used that waiting time to show Himself mighty to me during a time of heartbreak.
I’ve always preached and believed that Romans 8:26 meant that we don’t know how to pray like we should. For instance, I often use the example of praying for that new car, but the Holy Spirit, knowing that we simply need one that runs, will intercede for us to the Father for our real need.
I still believe that to be true. However, my outlook on it is quite different. You see, instead of focusing on what I do not know, “how to pray,” I believe what is more amazing and worthy of notice is on what I do know. What I do know from this verse is that the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness, and that when we don’t know how to pray because of the hurt and the pain, that He prays to the Father on our behalf!
I also know that God promises to use ALL THINGS together for good. This is a wonderful promise from our Father! Though it is hard, though the world cannot see or understand, He is so good. The circumstances we face, and the trying of our faith can and will be used to conform us into the image of Christ.
What I learned today sitting and waiting on news that somehow I already knew, was that instead of consuming myself with what I do not know about God, that what I do know about Him is so much sweeter! He loves me, He saved me, He’s blessed me in every aspect of my life, He is gracious to me, He is the Almighty, He is the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords, He is my Strength and my Salvation, He is my Father and my Friend, He is so so good to me, and His promises are true.
Today, as a good friend, Trent Cornwell shared with me, “Heaven has been populated with another worshipper.” Do you know Him? He loves you. He wants to use your life. He wants to take the heartaches of this life and build a masterpiece that shines forth His glory and His majesty! Will you let Him fulfill His promises in you?
