Yesterday, I posted a blog called the foolishness of preaching. My intent for the blog was to focus less of our efforts in hidden meanings, and imagery within our messages and focus rather on preaching the Bible in its intended context. It is our responsibility to preach the gospel, or good news; and not to display our ability to interpret new ideas from the scriptures.
However, in the writing of yesterday’s blog, I used a public platform in order to vent frustrations brought on by another. The very thing that moved me to write a post concerning preaching was then used to fuel my ill spirit and it was shown in my writing. The truth is that I “jabbed” (for lack of a better word) at someone for doing the same thing on a public forum in which I had just done. I used my blog instead of being an encouragement to love, instead of a training tool; I used it as an open rebuke for which I too was guilty.
As with our preaching, and as with our blogging; I do not desire to be a figure of controversy but rather a figure of encouragement and exhortation. If a preacher were to stand behind the pulpit and “vent” his frustrations to his listeners, then before too long there would be no more listeners. The same goes for blogging. My ill spirit, and my bad attitude was displayed in my writing on a public platform.
After much discussion, and the truth/perception light being shown on yesterday’s post; I debated whether or not to remove the post entirely. I have decided to leave it for one reason only! I hope and pray that as you read this post; that you will learn from yesterday’s and take away from it of what not to do. If I may share my heart for a moment, I would like to re-post the only part of yesterday’s writing that should have remained…
From “Foolishness of Preaching”
“I pray that I would always remember that this is an honor and privilege to to serve the King, and not a right or even deserved! I am unworthy of so great an honor, but God saw fit to use me in spite of me! I pray that my attitude toward my brothers and sisters in Christ would always be encouraging and never belittling. Thanks be to God that I am allowed and have the privilege to serve the King!”
