Thankful for the Lord’s protection!

We had a wonderful time last Sunday at Truth Baptist Church in Mechanicsville, VA with Pastor Erik Hastings and my friend Pastor Aaron Kuschel! It was great to catch up with some faithful supporters and ministry partners!

On the way home Monday, Labor Day, as we drove south on i95 in NC, we heard a pop in our car, then some dash lights came on indicating that our stabilitrak needed to be serviced. We did a quick google search to find out that it is common and likely due to the rain that we had driven through from Hurricane Dorian.

About an hour later, however, we heard a grinding under the driver side floorboard and started to feel some vibration. I called my friend Brad at Goodyear and he said it sounded like a wheel bearing and to take it easy, but we should be alright if it still felt solid.

Then, about 30 minutes from home, it happened! A louder pop followed by a jerk of the wheel and very hard vibration. We pulled off the exit (which also happened to be the main highway into our town) and stopped. The wheel bearing completely broke, did some damage to the tire, breaks, and rotors, and the sway bar links! Brad said that had we gone much further, our entire wheel could have come off!

We had it towed into Goodyear, free thanks to GEICO, and it was repaired the next day! I am guilty of often taking for granted just how the Lord not only provides, but protects our family! I want to take this moment to stop and give Him praise for all the blessings He has bestowed upon my life! I am one blessed man!

Happy Father’s Day

Today is bittersweet for me and has been for the last two years. It’s bitter in that this is my second Father’s Day without my dad being here. It’s sweet in that I now share this day with three wonderful sons!

The memories I have of my dad flood my mind throughout the day, and new memories are made with my own boys.

I remember one Father’s Day, I was about 8 or 9 years old. I wasn’t able to buy anything for dad because 8 year olds don’t have any money. But I made Dad a wooden chicken (I think at VBS), painted it white with red dots, and said it had chicken pox. Dad thought that was the greatest gift he’d ever received. I remember that being the first time I’d ever seen him cry.

I miss him today, but I can’t help but few blessed by God’s grace in allowing me to now know how he felt that day as my sons do similar projects for me.

I’m also reminded just how close and loving our Heavenly Father is to us! May I always know that my Loving Father is with me each and every step in my life! Thank you Lord for loving me!

Happy Father’s Day

(Proverbs 22:6) "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it."

I want to say Happy Father’s Day to my dad, Larry Underwood. There was a time when I took for granted his sacrifices and affection he showed to me. I believe whole heartedly that because of his example and compassion on me, by the grace of God, I am the dad I am today.

He taught me to always work hard for my family.

He taught me never to take time spent with your son for granted.

He taught me that no matter how stupid of a mistake I make, I am still his son.

These are only a few lessons that I learned from my dad, and I pray everyday that I will train up my son in the way he should go, as was taught to me.

Happy Father’s Day dad!

I love you!
