Merry Christmas! December 2018 Prayer Letter!

Underwood Family Prayer Letter PDF Download

Merry Christmas to each and every one of our faithful prayer partners!

This is a busy time of year for our team here in Port Elizabeth. As we prepare for camp next week, continue serving and working in our own ministries, and in between, try to do a little Christmas shopping; I am grateful for the opportunity to serve Jesus!

A couple of weeks ago, I was privileged to have the opportunity to preach the Lord’s Supper in Xhosa for the second time! Soweto Baptist had a special combined midweek service with New Life Baptist, and we worshiped by partaking in Isidlo seNkosi!

The next day, roughly 40 folks gathered at our house for Thanksgiving! I smoked 6 turkeys, we had four pans of dressing, two things of the most heavenly sweet potato casserole ever, and several other trimmings! We had a great time of fellowship!

Please be in prayer with us over the next several weeks for the following:

  1. Camp Rhino. We are grateful to have Camp’s Abroad coming to help with training and overseeing our camp this year! While this will be mine and Ashlee’s third camp in South Africa, it will be our first at the Camp Rhino property!
  2. Missionvale Bible Study and Thulasizwe! As we prepare for furlough, I am thankful for a friend that desires to reach his community with the gospel and share Jesus with others! Please pray for Thulasizwe as he will be overseeing our bible study in Missionvale. He is also praying about attending the bible college at Camp Rhino in February. Please pray for the Lord’s will and direction for Thulasizwe.
  3. Our furlough! We are just under 3 months away from our departure date for furlough. Yesterday, I made the purchase of our plane tickets and we are thankful for a direct flight to the States!

In between all the other aspects of ministry, I am calling, emailing, and texting to schedule meetings with supporters and new churches alike! You can imagine with a 7 hour time difference the planning that is involved.

I’m excited to be able to report in all that God has done during our time here in South Africa! I’m also excited about the opportunity to present our ministry in some new churches. We are praying to raise some additional personal and ministry support during our furlough. If you would be interested in hearing from us about our ministry, please do not hesitate to email! It would be my honor to schedule a time to come by and encourage your church family!

Thank you all for your continued love, prayers, and support for our family!

Furlough 2019 Introduction Letter

As many of you are already aware, we are just a few months away from our scheduled furlough in 2019! We will leave South Africa on Monday, February 25th, and arrive in Atlanta, GA on Feb 26th. We are greatly looking forward to seeing friends and family, our home church, and reporting in to some of our supporting churches!

Also, it is our desire to schedule meetings in new churches that do not currently support our family and ministry. As we prepare to take the next steps of ministry here in South Africa, and as our ministry continues to grow, so does the need of financial support.

I am attaching a brief “about our family and ministry” letter below in hopes that God will provide opportunities for us to present our ministry in new churches during our furlough!

June 2018 Prayer Letter

My heart is so full as I write this month’s prayer letter. My family and I have been so encouraged this week by a group from our home church, Newton Baptist, and my Pastor and his wife, Tony and Stacey Howeth.

It is hard to believe that their time here in South Africa has already come to an end, but I trust that what God has begun in my heart and theirs will continue to bear fruit for a long time!

On their first full day in Port Elizabeth, we attended a public primary school where Bro Tony preached to nearly 1,000 young people plus the staff and teachers! God opened the door for the gospel in this area, Kuyga, where Missionary Kevin Hall is currently starting a church.

Then, on Wednesday, the group from Newton Baptist, another group from Calvary Baptist in Hiawassee, GA, and roughly 45 folks from the Missionvale area gathered in Lulu’s living room for our weekly bible study and prayer! Pastor Nate Browning brought a great message on the liberty we have in Christ and how we must use that liberty to serve Him! Then Bro Tony brought our second message that left absolutely no doubt that each and every one of the 45 from Missionvale heard a clear and concise gospel message!

I ask that you all will continue to pray for our efforts in Missionvale as we desire to reach them with the gospel of Christ, train young men, and start churches all around Port Elizabeth as a result of our labor!

Though I will miss my pastor and church folks dearly, I am more than excited to hear about the decisions made, and hearts stirred to carry the gospel to the world as they head back to Covington, GA tomorrow. I believe that God will continue to use this missions trip in their lives, and in my own!

Thank you all for your continued love, prayers, and support of our family!
