June 2017 Prayer Letter

It is now officially winter here in South Africa…though we still have days in the low-mid 80’s! Yesterday really felt like winter and was awesome! The mornings start pretty chilly and we wear coats, then change into a light jacket, and by afternoon; no jacket at all. It’s still a little strange to us to have the seasons opposite of what we are accustomed to in the States, especially it being summer during Christmas.

May was a fun and packed month! Mother’s day at Soweto was a great blessing as many mama’s came and received picture frames, and one first time visitor made a profession of faith after the service!

We also held a Pastor’s banquet to honor pastors and to show preachers in training that we want to honor these men of God that give their lives to serve Jesus! It was a great time of fellowship with these men, and we were able to hear some awesome practical ministry lesson from Pastor Austin Gardner via video!

On the language front, we are in the final chapter of our language school curriculum and looking forward to our next steps in the language. There is still MUCH learning to be done!

I have a special prayer request that I would like to share with you all…by January 2018, it is our desire to launch out and start our first church! This means that we must continue making strides in Xhosa, decide on a location (praying about Walmer township where there are currently 0 churches with our team), and begin now surveying the area to make contacts that we will be able to work with! Its very exciting and also very nerve racking, BUT THIS IS WHY WE ARE HERE!!

I want to thank you all for your faithful love, prayers, and support of our family!

A Sunday in South Africa

My family and I started our Lord’s day at Soweto Baptist Church where we attend each week while we are in language school! Jeremy Hall is greatly being used of God and there is a goldmine of young men being trained to carry the gospel around the world!

After services at Soweto Baptist, I headed over to the second service at Madiba Bay Baptist Church. This is the first church started by Bro Kevin Hall during his first term in South Africa. Madiba Bay just celebrated their 9th anniversary last Sunday! Pastor Lubabalo is one of the first young men that Kevin met when he arrived on the field!

Then, at 4:00 pm, me and a few from Madiba Bay headed over to the afternoon service of New Life Baptist Church Kwadwesi! Mark Coffey and Pastor Sipho Bonga are doing a tremendous job reaching the Kwadwesi area with the gospel! Just this morning, they baptized two men and had several others express interest in following the Lord in Believer’s Baptism!

Today, like every Sunday, I can lay my head on my pillow and say; “It sure has been good to be in the house of the Lord today!”

Thank you all for your continued love, prayers, and support of our family!

One Week From Tomorrow!

This is just a short update to let you all know… We are in the single digit countdown for our departure for South Africa! Yesterday, I was honored to preach for a dear friend and influence in my life, Pastor Chad Gordon! Lighthouse Baptist Church was such an encouragement and blessing to our family yesterday! We are honored to be a part of their missionary family!

This week, we will be meeting with several friends and family for different get-togethers and saying some final goodbye’s for a while. (We probably should have started this last week so we could fit everyone in! 🙂  ) I’m so humbled by the love that so many display toward our family.

Deputation has been a wonderful growing area in my life personally and spiritually! God has used this time to teach me lessons that will certainly be needed in the days ahead. I hope to share some of these lessons within the next few updates.

I want to thank you all for your continued love, prayers, and support of our family!
