It was an exciting time at Newton Baptist Church this week as the Lord did a great work in my heart personally and in the hearts of many others during our Spring Revival with Evangelist David Smallwood.
We started off by hearing a greatly needed message on bitterness. Bitterness is a poison and it affects many people whether admitted or not. It is also the root problem in our lives coupled with pride that can and will stay the moving of God to personal revival, and revival in our churches. My heart was deeply moved and convicted about situations that I held on to, that had taken hold of the roots of bitterness.
Throughout the course of the meeting, the Holy Spirit began dealing with me more and more personally as it progressed. One in particular message that struck a chord, frankly struck a nerve with me was one on God having preeminence in my life. A question brought up, and remained in the fore front of my mind was; “has human approval become a god in your life?” If the Lord truly has preeminence, if He truly has His proper place in your life, and in my life, then suddenly man’s opinion and man’s approval is not so important to us.
We were also blessed to have heard messages on joy! Joy of the believer in Christ, rejoicing in the great things of God, rejoicing in His grace toward us is key for the believer. The truth of revival, the purpose, and the product of revival is joy in Christ, for what He has done, and for who He is!
The whole revival meeting was then summarized in one message; Christ is SUFFICIENT! When Christ is truly all I need, when He is enough; then I am in a place of true, spiritual revival. There is nothing else that will fill the void of the sinner, but Christ. There is nothing else that will satisfy the believer, but Christ. When Christ is sufficient, we learn to be content. My desire is that my life be defined by one thing; “For to me to live is Christ…” and that is it!
