Durban, South Africa is a city/metropolitan area with approximately 3.5 million people. It is also home to the largest Indian population outside of India, and home to Umlazi, the second largest township in all of South Africa!
On my trip to Durban, I noticed one common thread stretching throughout each province; a desperate need for the gospel. All along the twelve hour drive, there are literally dozens of villages, townships, and cities where very little (if any) gospel is preached.
With each village and township we passed, I wondered, have they ever heard? They live their lives, day in and day out. They work hard, try to improve on their mud hut or metal shack, and find a meal for that day to feed their family. (Many with 10 plus people per home!) They are simply existing. They have no hope, no help, no comfort. Each day that is survived is counted a success.
My heart was heavily stirred for people all over South Africa. From Port Elizabeth to Mthantha to Durban, each day folks are slipping into eternity. There are only two options; which one is theirs? I am asking God to raise up a young man that would take the gospel message, train up leaders, and plant churches in every major city in South Africa. I am asking God to raise up a young lady that would follow the leading of her husband and be willing to serve God as a missionary wife. I am asking God to touch the hearts of His people that would stay behind to be the anchor and support for those willing to go!
Will you pray with me for the great need of South Africa? Will you ask God to work in your heart to go? Will you submit yourselves to whatever God wants you to do with your life in service to Him? The need is great. The opportunity is great. And our God is greater!
