Romans 6:14 “For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.”
There was a young man whose father was very well to do. This young man and his older brother knew that they would inherit a great deal of wealth from their father once he passed away.
The younger of the two went to his father one day in his arrogance and impatience asking for his inheritance right then. Reluctantly, the father gave his son what he had asked.
For a short season, the son lived a riotous lifestyle, doing as he pleased, and going wherever he desired. Until one day, he awoke to find himself living in the filth and disgrace of a pigsty.
Broken and ashamed, the young man schemed and rehearsed what he would say to his father if only he could come home. Yet while the young man was a great way off; the father saw the son, ran to him, and embraced him once again as his son!
WHY?! You might ask…One Word: GRACE!
Though undeserved, the father loved his son. Though the son had sinned against his father, and had done no good in his sight; the father received his son. The young man had experienced GRACE!
I thank God for His grace! The Bible says in Ephesians 2:8,9 “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
By the GRACE of God, I am saved!
The Bible says in Titus 3:5-7 “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.”
It’s not my works, but His work by which I am saved!
Isaiah 64:6 says that Our Righteousness is as Filthy Rags! There is no good in us, there is no good work we can do, there is no LAW we can keep to be holy in the sight of God!
But thank the God of Heaven for One Word: GRACE! I am so thankful for His GRACE.
I was taught long ago that MERCY is not getting what you deserve; Hell! But GRACE is getting what you DO NOT deserve; Heaven!
Like the Prodigal Son, we are dead in our sins, living in the pigsty of self-righteousness. But the GRACE of the Father is always there, if we only accept what He has already done!
Bro. Jonathan McNeese posted this recently: “Galatians 5:9 “A little leaven, leaveneth the whole lump” Contrary to most perceptions, the context of this verse is not regarding Sin but rather Self-righteousness. After salvation the church at Galatia was trying to live by the Law, and Paul was instructing them to live by Love(verses 6, 13, 14, 22). To Advertise yourself as WORTHY is much more insulting to Grace than to Admit you are Wicked.”
I pray that I never deem myself as Worthy, but FORGIVEN. All thanks to One Word: GRACE!
