I have enough…

Genesis 33:8-11 And he said, What [meanest] thou by all this drove which I met? And he said, [These are] to find grace in the sight of my lord.

9 And Esau said, I have enough, my brother; keep that thou hast unto thyself.

10 And Jacob said, Nay, I pray thee, if now I have found grace in thy sight, then receive my present at my hand: for therefore I have seen thy face, as though I had seen the face of God, and thou wast pleased with me.

11 Take, I pray thee, my blessing that is brought to thee; because God hath dealt graciously with me, and because I have enough. And he urged him, and he took [it].

We know from the chapters before that Jacob had stolen Esau’s birthright and his blessing. Jacob ran in fear of his life, unto Laban, his uncle. Jacob served 20 years under Laban where he served 7 years for Rachel, was deceived by Laban and took Leah to wife; and then served another 7 years for Rachel as well. Jacob then served 6 years for the cattle that Laban had given him.

Jacob is now told by God to go back to his kindred in his land. Upon returning to his father’s land, Jacob fears that Esau will surely be angry and try to take his life.

We see in the verses above, the conversation between Jacob and Esau upon their meeting. I wanted to share this thought: I know that when Esau states that he has enough, that he is referring to his cattle and servants. What I thought was interesting is that both times Esau says he has enough; Jacob said “if I have found grace in thy sight.”

The thought here is that the God of Heaven certainly has enough GRACE for us! He doesn’t lack for anything, but especially His grace towards a wretched sinner such as I!

In this passage we see the reunion of two brothers. This reunion came the same way that our reunion does with our Creator, our God; through GRACE. We don’t have to earn it; Esau tried to refuse Jacob’s offering. We don’t have to buy it. GRACE is freely given! We just have to receive it!

Thank you Lord for your abundant GRACE in my life! Thank you that I have an eternal home in Heaven, all thanks to GRACE.
