Gen. 40:4 “And the captain of the guard charged Joseph with them, and he served them: and they continued a season in ward.”
Gen. 41:16 “And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, It is not in me: God shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace.
This morning’s devotions spoke to me in an unusual way. When reading about the interpretation of dreams by Joseph, the preparation of Egypt for the seven years of famine, and Joseph’s being placed over the land as ruler second to Pharaoh; there is so much richness that you could study all day and still have new nuggets to take away!
The message I needed and took this morning was in two places. The first notice, Joseph was given charge over the baker and the butler; but how was his charge described? He served them! The position of leadership, influence, or authority given to us by God is one of servitude! We are to be the servants of Christ, and likewise to serve our brethren. This is quite contrary to how the world would describe a leadership role. But we know our way of thinking is opposite God’s way; His way up is down, and the way we become great is to become the least!
So number one: Lead others by serving them!
The second message that jumped out at me this morning, that was also much needed, was it is not me, but God! Anything and everything that is good in me, successful in me, or rewarding in me; is NOT me! So many times, if we are not careful, we can claim glory for ourselves that truly belong to the Lord!
So number two: I am nothing, God is everything; Honor Him!
