Yesterday, I was honored to have met and prayed with a young couple that is being used mightily by God. Andrew and Tori Smith are a wonderful testimony of God’s goodness to us that is not wasted in self pity.
Andrew is a veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom. He was deployed to Afghanistan, and in theatre for eighteen days. On day seventeen, he was out on a patrol with his platoon. The very next day, on the same route as the previous day, Andrew stepped on a land mine that took both of his legs and half of his stomach.
It has been a long road to recovery for Andrew, both physically as well as mentally. However, in speaking with him yesterday, I couldn’t help but take notice of his general disposition. His attitude was one that made me feel shamed. He was happy to be alive, he was rejoicing that he was with his wife, and he was so grateful for the house that was being built by 100’s of volunteers, and he praised the Lord for every breath!
The day before that fateful mission, Andrew prayed for God’s protection, but most of all he prayed for His will! What he said to me afterwards still amazes me. He said, that mine was God’s will, and somehow God had a purpose for his life!
I believe that Andrew and Mrs. Tori will continue to be used greatly by God that will bring Him ultimate glory! I believe that by his testimony, and his grateful attitude, that many will come to know Jesus Christ as their Savior! I am so honored to have met, spoke to, and prayed with this couple. I hope that you will also pray for them as they continue in the days ahead. I also, pray that I always praise Him in the storms of my life, and remember that its only by His grace that I can enjoy each breath as well!
