Phil. 3:10,11 “That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.”
Many times throughout my Christian life, I have caught myself becoming so wrapped up in “doing”, that I have neglected my “being.” What do I mean by this? Aren’t we supposed to be busy at the Lord’s work? Are we not to be involved in the ministry of Jesus Christ? YES! A million times, yes!
However, if we are not careful, ministry, and doing, and activities, and (fill in your blank) can begin to take precedence in your life and you begin to neglect the very One that saved you for the purpose of having a relationship with Him.
You see; the goal is not to be so busy doing everything, everywhere, that we forget that Christ wants to know us intimately; personally. It should also be our greatest desire to know Him, and when we begin to know Him deeper and more intimately, we grow in the knowledge of His power, grace, and love. As we continue to grow in Christ, and cultivate that relationship with Him, then we will naturally be partakers of His work.
As I press toward the mark, and as I work to build our CrossRoads College and Career Class, I cannot be so consumed with doing that, that I forget to enjoy the ministry and enjoy growing closer to the Lord. Sometimes we can have a mile wide of activities and ministries that we are involved in, but ultimately we are an inch deep when it comes to our relationship with Christ.
Take extra care that your relationship with Christ does not become second place to the ministry that He has for you. It’s funny that as we build a relationship with Him, our relationships here become deeper and more meaningful as well. Let us enjoy the ministry that the Lord has allowed us to be a part of, and remember to focus on Jesus more than we focus on the work.
